Youth Services provides a range of volunteer opportunities that include shelving books, book cleaning, shelf maintenance, program support, & opportunity to run story times. Volunteers must be comfortable interacting with children and families.
The library offers special programs & outreach to the community, such as book clubs, craft circles, and tabling at community events. Supporting programs & outreach is interactive and customer service oriented.
All library materials are processed with barcodes and other identifiers, which is handled by the A/TS department apart from the public library space. This is also the department that repairs materials.
The Humboldt Room Docent welcomes visitors, assists them in using local history documents and sources to do historical and genealogical research, and maintains order in the Humboldt Room. Preference is given to applicants who have a strong knowledge base in Humboldt history, genealogical skills, experience in doing historical research, and-or archival skills. Strong communication and customer service skills are paramount for this volunteer job.
The Zip Book & ILL programs provide library users with access to books that are not available at their local libraries. Volunteers will assist in the packaging & shipping of materials.
Patrons return close to 1,000 library materials each day. Keeping the collection of materials clean and shelved accurately is highly detailed, independent work with a number of processes to be completed including resensitizing, organizing, shelving, and shelf-reading.
