Planning for Our Future

As we plan for the future, it is important to recognize and address the workforce challenges facing our community. These challenges include a shortage of workers, gaps in job skills, job losses caused by economic changes, limited access to affordable education, and an aging population, among others. In Humboldt County, these issues are addressed through local and regional workforce plans developed and adopted by the Humboldt County Workforce Development Board.

Investing in Our Community

The Humboldt County Workforce Development Board serves as the fiscal agent for federal and state Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) funds ensuring resources are used effectively to support local workforce programs. The board also leads the Humboldt Workforce Coalition to foster coordination, shared knowledge, and aligned services across the county with education and workforce partners.

Working closely with the County’s Economic Development Division and regional partners, the Workforce Development Board helps guide the development of local and regional workforce plans. These plans focus on aligning workforce training with industry demand, strengthening partnerships between education providers and employers, expanding career pathways and skills training opportunities, improving access to workforce services, and supporting individuals who face barriers to employment. Together, these efforts help ensure that Humboldt County residents can access meaningful careers while employers can find the skilled workers they need.
