The Humboldt County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) continues to work closely with businesses to safely reopen. Nearly 2,500 businesses have been certified to date.
Former County Administrative Officer Loretta Sands, who came out of retirement to help with the certification process, said the process is straightforward and businesses may begin to reopen with safety measures in place upon EOC certification.
Sands said she has seen businesses get creative to meet the challenges of the pandemic and is happy to walk people through the process and answer questions.
“When we say we’re in this together, that’s what we mean,” Sands said. “Our goal is to ensure businesses that choose to open do so with plans in place and the safety of employees and customers in mind.”
The following are some of the sectors that can open (some restrictions may apply):
- Restaurants for curbside pickup and delivery and outside dining (if using outdoor tents, only one side may be closed)
- Child care
- Hair salons and barber shops
- Hotels and lodging
- Gyms and fitness centers.

Please call ahead before visiting businesses to ask about hours of operation and any safety measures in place.
