Oct. 13, 2023 - October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Health & Human Services Posted on October 13, 2023

This year, the Domestic Violence Awareness Project, a leading force in the Domestic Violence Awareness Month campaign, invites participants to “Heal, Hold & Center.”

The Heal, Hold & Center theme reflects the importance of healing collectively from violence and oppression, holding space for survivors and centering those most marginalized in the violence prevention movement, especially Black, Indigenous and people of color.

In an effort to create opportunities to heal, several local organizations and programs are offering virtual events and resources during the month of October and throughout the year.

On Monday, Oct. 16, the Northern California Tribal Court Coalition (NCTCC) is providing a free Tribal Emergency Protective Order webinar featuring tribal judges and law enforcement participants. Register online at us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZ0scO6vpjgtEtVuslW_uu4RekjcDZMXAzAy#/registration.

On Tuesday, Oct. 24, the Humboldt County Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS), Public Health’s Family Violence Prevention Program is hosting a free, virtual 60-minute Domestic Violence 101 training geared toward community members and service providers who want to learn more about the prevalence and impact of domestic violence within the community, as well as suggestions and resources for supporting survivors.
