July 20, 2022 - Workshop to focus on local water quality assessment program

Health & Human Services Posted on July 20, 2022

Humboldt County Department of Health & Human Services, Division of Environmental Health Division (DEH) staff is scheduled to host its second public workshop to help evaluate the county’s Local Area Management Plan (LAMP) on Tuesday.

The purpose of the workshop is to give participants an opportunity to learn about and provide feedback on the LAMP’s water quality assessment program so staff can better assess the performance of existing Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems (OWTS) and consider negative effects of OWTS on our groundwater and surface water resources. The program currently focuses on assessment of the following watersheds: Clam, Moonstone, Luffenholtz and Trinidad State beaches and each of their major upstream drainages.

The key to a thorough assessment is consideration of the community experience. DEH encourages all stakeholders to attend the workshop to learn more about this program and share their thoughts and concerns related to water quality within these watersheds and beyond. The workshop will be held Tuesday, July 26, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and interested parties can register via Eventbrite.

The latest workshop information can be found on DEH’s Public Announcements webpage. If you have any questions regarding the upcoming public workshops, please contact DEH Land Use Program staff at 707-445-6215 or envhealth@co.humboldt.ca.us.
