The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services reminds Humboldt County residents that U.S Department of Agriculture (USDA) grant and loan program funds are still available for homeowners whose homes were damaged as a result of the Dec. 20, 2022 earthquakes and/or the 2022-2023 winter storms.

Grants up to $40,675 and loans up to $40,000 are available for qualifying low and very-low-income homeowners to make vital repairs to homes impacted by the earthquakes or 2022-2023 winter storms. Applicants must meet age and income requirements, and requirements vary per program.

The application process to obtain a USDA grant or loan takes time, and USDA programs can be combined and applied for simultaneously. To help navigate this lengthy process and to ensure applications are complete and meet the USDA’s requirements, local Disaster Case Management (DCM) support is available.

Homeowners with residences that were red or yellow tagged due to earthquake or winter storm damage are especially encouraged to reach out to a local Disaster Case Manager to begin the application process even if repairs have previously been completed.

The USDA has additional funds available for non-disaster related home repairs for income-eligible community members aged 62 and older. Humboldt County homeowners interested in applying for the USDA’s non-disaster related housing repair grants and loans should call 530-742-2727 ext. 5 or email familyservices@yubasutterhabitat.org or parchuleta@yubasutterhabitat.org for assistance with the application process.
